Shamma Bint Mohammed at the Davos Forum: Emirati women have gone beyond the stage of empowerment to the stage of consolidating their status


Bern, January 20 / WAM / The World Woman Foundation, in partnership with Forbes Middle East, hosted Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, in a dialogue as part of her participation in the Global Women’s Agenda at the World Economic Forum in Davos – Switzerland, in appreciation of her leadership role in supporting culture, education, and global responsibility within its efforts to support women, and presenting Emirati models that express the reality of women’s empowerment and success through platforms. The dialogue – which was attended by Kholoud Al-Omyan, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Middle East, and moderated by Hend Khulaifat, the media – discussed the profound transformations in women’s leadership roles and their relationship with the economy, culture, and decision-making in a world witnessing rapid changes.
Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan confirmed during the dialogue that the Emirati experience in supporting women came as a result of a clear leadership vision since the establishment of the state, adopted by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (Mother of the Emirates), President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and formed the cornerstone of the Emirati women’s journey.
She pointed out that the vision of the wise leadership of the state, based on the full belief that women are a strategic partner in national development, turned into realistic policies, legislation and practices that guaranteed Emirati women an effective presence in economic and cultural decision-making positions, and established the principle of partnership, not comparison, between men and women, which made Emirati women go beyond the stage of empowerment and move today to the stage of consolidating status.
She stated that Emirati women entrepreneurs today manage an economic portfolio estimated at about 17 billion dollars, which represents an effective part of the strength of the national economy, and contributes directly to diversifying sources of income and enhancing the flexibility of the economy in the post-oil era.
