Bayern Munich terrifies Europe.. What did Kompany say about winning with a record score?

Belgian coach Vincent Kompany was not “surprised” by the wonderful performance presented by his German team, Bayern Munich, yesterday, Tuesday, in Bergamo, when it defeated its Italian host, Atalanta, 6-1, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

Bayern’s sweeping victory over the only remaining representative of Italy in the main continental competition came even without the top scorer, England’s Harry Kane, decisive the first half with a clean score.

Next week, Bayern will move to its home stadium, Allianz Arena, where it has lost only once this season.

“It’s the kind of performance we wanted,” Kompany told Prime Video. We were dangerous throughout the match,” he said, adding: “We have talent and quality in the team, so I am not surprised when the players perform at this level.”

For Atalanta, a comeback seems almost impossible, despite the dramatic way in which it overcame the other German team, Borussia Dortmund, in the round of 16, when it beat them in the second leg 4-1 after losing the first leg 0-2.

There is nothing wrong with a traditionally small team facing a European giant like Bayern, but the night was tough for Raffaele Palladino’s players, who received applause from their fans at the break and after the final whistle, despite the very harsh defeat.

“He can become one of the best players in the world.”

Frenchman Michael Olise played a role in this sweeping victory by scoring a brace, earning praise from his Belgian coach, who said that he could become one of the best players in the world.

Oliseh did not calm down throughout the match, and even received applause from the Atalanta fans when he scored his second personal goal in the 64th minute, the fifth for his team.

Kompany said: “He came (from England’s Crystal Palace in the summer of 2024) with a mentality that gives him a chance to become one of the best players in the world,” adding: “I don’t want to compare the players, because they are not similar at all. But in terms of mentality, when I played with (his compatriot) Kevin De Bruyne in Manchester City, I was lucky to watch him develop as a young player to become a global star.”

He continued: “It is that obsession with details, and Michael has that. This is not enough, so we have to push him to provide more. But he is on an excellent path, and it is fun to be witnesses to that.”

Bayern will face in the quarter-finals, if a very unlikely upset does not happen in the second leg against Atalanta, Real Madrid of Spain or Manchester City of England, in whose ranks Kompany shone as a player.

As for Bavarian club defender Joshua Kimmich: “It was a very strong performance today. The method was impressive. We knew we could hurt them, and we also knew the atmosphere here would be great. “You feel it.”

“You can only congratulate Bayern.”

He continued: “I have never won away from home 6-1 and saw the opponent’s fans still cheering for their team like this. It’s remarkable. The fans and the atmosphere must be noted. However, it was a successful night of work for us. Obviously it’s just a first leg. “We knew at half-time that 3-0 was a really good result, but we wanted to increase it.”

For his part, midfielder Alexander Pavlovic said: “It cannot get better than that.” We would have preferred to keep a clean sheet, but it’s a great result and a great performance. We knew what awaited us, and we imposed our style on them. “We really did everything great offensively and defensively tonight.”

Naturally, Palladino was not satisfied. “We are upset,” he said. “This is not what we wanted.” We played against perhaps the best team in the world. Congratulations to them and their coach, they have impressed me. We have to accept the result. We apologize to the fans.”

While his Croatian player, Mario Pasalic, who scored the only goal in stoppage time, said, “You can only congratulate Bayern. Unfortunately, things did not go as we wanted and we have to accept the loss.”

He continued: “We just have to try to go into the return match with some pride.”
