The Arab Cultural Institute in Italy promotes Arabic language education

Sharjah, 9 March / WAM / The Arab Cultural Institute at the Catholic University of Milan signed a cooperation agreement with the Municipality of Milan to launch a specialized program in teaching the Arabic language and culture to workers at the “Reception Center for the City of Milan,” one of the most important centers concerned with immigrant and refugee services in the city.
The Arab Cultural Institute is the result of a strategic partnership between the Sharjah Book Authority and the Catholic University of Milan, which was launched in 2024 with the aim of supporting Arabic language education in Europe and expanding areas of cultural and knowledge cooperation between the Arab world and European academic institutions.
This agreement comes in response to a growing need for the Municipality of Milan to qualify its cadres working in the reception and integration sector linguistically and culturally, in order to enhance their ability to communicate with Arabic speakers and improve the quality of services provided to them in light of the increasing number of beneficiaries of Arab origins.
Under the agreement, the institute will organize courses in the Arabic language for the beginner level, in addition to introductory programs in Arab culture directed to workers in the “Reception Center for the City of Milan” and to cadres working within the network of the reception and integration system in the city who deal daily with immigrants and refugees of Arab origins.
The “Milan Reception Center”, which opened in 2024, is the only entity in the city that provides specialized services to immigrants and refugees. It employs about a hundred cultural and linguistic mediators of multiple nationalities and provides its services to approximately a thousand beneficiaries per month.
The first courses are scheduled to start this March.
This cooperation represents one of the outcomes of the cultural partnerships that the Sharjah Book Authority is working to develop with international academic and cultural institutions with the aim of supporting the spread of the Arabic language and enhancing its presence.
