Mohammed bin Zayed University of Human Sciences organizes a symposium "Chinese and Arab civilizations"

ABU DHABI, 22nd January, 2017 (WAM) – Mohammed bin Zayed University for the Humanities, at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, organized a symposium on “Human Exchange and Civilizational Interaction between the Chinese and Arab Civilizations”, in cooperation with the International Confucian Federation and the University of Foreign Studies in Beijing, as part of the intellectual, cultural and cognitive initiatives undertaken by the university within the framework of its local, regional and international environment.

Yesterday, an elite group of scholars, experts and those interested in issues of human communication between the Arab and Chinese civilizations participated in the symposium’s activities, and it included a number of topics on the links and commonalities between the two civilizations.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Azizi, Assistant Vice Chancellor for the University’s Academic Affairs Sector, confirmed that UAE-Chinese relations have witnessed qualitative development in recent decades with the support of the leadership of the two countries and culminated in the comprehensive strategic partnership that transferred cooperation to the level of a shared vision for the future.

He added that this symposium is an extension of this partnership within the scope of the humanities undertaken by the university, and it sees it as a space to consolidate the common concept of making diversity a bridge and values ​​a language for integration and knowledge and a pillar for peacemaking, stressing that the role of the academic institution goes beyond preparing competencies to building awareness and promoting coexistence and mutual understanding between civilizations.

For his part, Jia Deyong, Vice President of the International Confucian Confederation, stressed that the UAE is an important partner for China in the Gulf, especially with the expansion of cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, technology, education, tourism and human exchange, noting that the symposium reviewed cultural cooperation, civilizational interaction, and issues of tolerance and coexistence.

The scientific symposium addressed the prospects for exchange and integration between Chinese and Arab cultures within several main axes that included the basis of dialogue between Chinese and Arab civilizations, the values ​​of tolerance and coexistence in Arab and Chinese cultures, and the role of the Silk Road in Arab civilizational interaction.
