China warns its citizens against traveling to Japan… and reveals serious threats

Warned for vacation in February, indicating the deterioration of the security situation, in light of sharp tensions between the two countries.
Relations between the two largest economies in Asia suddenly became tense, after conservative Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi hinted last November that Tokyo might intervene militarily in the event of an attack on Taiwan.
Tensions between China and Japan
This statement angered Beijing, which considers the island an integral part of its territory and does not exclude Annexation by force.
China then advised its citizens not to travel to Japan, and the number of Chinese visitors to Japan declined by 45% last month compared to the previous year due to this dispute.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday renewed its warning to travelers, advising its citizens to avoid heading to Japan, especially during the long Lunar New Year holiday.
Criminal and illegal acts
The Department of Consular Affairs said At the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement "Public security in Japan has deteriorated recently, with criminal and illegal acts targeting Chinese citizens"
The statement added that a wave of earthquakes struck areas in Japan and caused injuries, stressing that "Chinese citizens in Japan face serious threats to their safety"
Chinese tourists previously represented a quarter of the total foreign tourists in Japan, as approximately 7.5 million Chinese visited during the first nine months of 2025, according to Japanese official figures.
