"National Archives and Library" It reviews the challenges of historical research in the era of artificial intelligence at the Cairo Book Fair


Cairo, January 28 / WAM / The National Archives and Library shed light on the contemporary challenges facing the recording of history, calling for a balance between solid scientific methods and the use of modern technologies, during a specialized symposium it organized as part of its participation in the activities of the Cairo International Book Fair 2026.
The symposium, presented by historian Dr. Ayman Fouad Sayed, Professor of Islamic History and Islamic Civilization at Al-Azhar University, and moderated by journalist Mahmoud Sharaf, focused on the importance of employing digital tools and artificial intelligence techniques in historical research as supportive tools that facilitate access to information, with a categorical emphasis on the necessity of subjecting its outputs to scientific review and scrutiny and referring to reliable original sources.
Dr. Sayed reviewed the development of the historical blogging movement among Muslims and its methods, leading to modern approaches in critical reading and analysis. He also addressed the problems of the absence of documents in the early periods of Islam, and the limits of the beginning of blogging, which requires researchers to be extremely precise in dealing with sources.
The lecturer also touched on the role of Orientalists in studying Islamic history and how to benefit critically from their works, stressing the importance of diversifying approaches to include political, social and economic aspects.
For her part, Mrs. Aisha Al Zaabi, Head of the Educational Programs Department at the National Archives and Library, stressed at the conclusion of the symposium that developing historical research skills goes beyond recounting facts; To be a documented knowledge building process based on critical analysis.
She pointed out that this type of research is an essential foundation for preserving national memory and preserving cultural identity, and a means of consciously re-reading the past that contributes to understanding the present and anticipating the future.
The organization of this symposium comes within the framework of the integrated cultural program of the National Archives and the National Library, which aims to enhance knowledge dialogue and exchange experiences, as the accompanying activities witnessed a remarkable turnout from exhibition goers, which reflects its role in enriching the cultural scene and enhancing public awareness.
