The UAE national team faces Al Karama of Syria in the quarter-finals of the Dubai International Basketball Association
Dubai, January 29 / WAM / Today, the UAE basketball team will meet the Syrian team Al Karama, in the first match of the quarter-finals of the Dubai International Basketball Championship, which is currently being held in the Rashid bin Hamdan Hall in Al-Nasr Club, while the second match of the same round will witness an all-Libyan confrontation bringing together Ahly Tripoli and Al-Ittihad.
Eight teams had secured their qualification to the quarter-finals of the 35th edition of the tournament, following the conclusion of the first round competitions yesterday.
The first group saw the UAE national team qualify as leaders, along with the Syrian team Al-Wahda, the Libyan club Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr, the host of the tournament, while the Syrian team Homs Al-Fida left the competition.
In the second group, the Libyan team of Al-Ahly Tripoli, the Tunisian club Africain, the Lebanese club Beirut, and the Syrian team Al-Karama reserved their places in the quarter-finals, while the Zamboanga team from the Philippines was eliminated from the tournament.
The matches of the last round resulted in the UAE national team achieving its fourth victory in a row, after defeating Al-Wahda of Syria with a score of 107-94, to secure the top spot in the first group with a full score with 8 points, while Al-Nasr succeeded in achieving its first victory at the expense of Homs Al-Fidaa of Syria with a score of 101-100, to reserve the last qualifying cards for the group.
In the second group competitions, the Tunisian African Club won its confrontation with the Libyan club Al-Ahly Tripoli with a score of 107-91, so that the two teams shared the top spot in the standings with 7 points each, while Zamboanga’s victory over the Lebanese club Beirut with a score of 83-72 was not enough for it to qualify, so it finished fifth and bid farewell to the tournament, after fourth place was decided in favor of the Al-Karama team on points difference after the two teams were equal in the score.
