"UNCTAD" It praises the Kingdom’s methodologies for measuring the volume of e-commerce

The United Nations Trade and Development Organization (UNCTAD) stated that the Kingdom is one of the first countries in the world to work on finding a scientific and reliable methodology to measure the volume and value of e-commerce in accordance with the best international standards and practices.
This came during a workshop held within the work of the 68th regular meeting of the E-Commerce Council, in which 25 government agencies participated, headed by the Minister of Commerce, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, and a number of Council members.
Experts pointed out "UNCTAD" The organization is working with the Kingdom on a comprehensive framework to measure the volume and value of electronic and digital commerce in the Kingdom, in addition to assessing the extent of adoption of digital commerce, measuring the value of transactions, the growth of the sector, improving its competitiveness, strengthening digital economy policies and raising the efficiency of government services directed to the business sector. "UNCTAD"which would place the Kingdom in a leading position at the global level as a result of its comprehensiveness of mechanisms for measuring the volume of e-commerce in all its classifications in accordance with internationally approved definitions.
The meeting included a discussion of the work and initiatives of the Council’s cooperation with a number of international organizations and relevant government agencies with the aim of facilitating e-commerce, and determining the necessary regulatory and procedural reforms.
Participants in the regular meeting were briefed on the plan of the General Transport Authority to confront the high demand during the seasons (Ramadan season), as the authority indicated that the periods of holidays and national events witness A significant increase in the volume of orders through electronic stores, which contributes to an increase in the volume of mail shipments during these seasons.
Enhancing the efficiency of services during Ramadan
The authority indicated that its plan will contribute to enhancing the efficiency of services provided during the Ramadan season, raising the quality of postal services and the satisfaction of beneficiaries, and creating governance for working with relevant authorities and parties.
It explained that e-commerce shipments for the Ramadan season increased by 18% last year, recording 26 million shipment compared to 22 million shipments in Ramadan 2024, while complaints registered in the Ramadan 2024 season decreased from 4,330 complaints to 1,700 complaints last Ramadan.
It is noteworthy that the E-Commerce Council, since its establishment in 2018, has assumed the tasks of proposing policies and legislation, supervising the program (stimulating e-commerce), and coordinating with the relevant authorities to unify efforts, eliminate obstacles facing e-commerce, and ensure Effective implementation of the program’s projects and recommendations.
