Liverpool defeats Chelsea with a huge deal

Liverpool, the English Premier League champions, beat Chelsea in the race to sign French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for a sum that could reach $82 million, according to British media reports on Monday.
But the 20-year-old will not move to Anfield before the end of the season, despite Liverpool’s urgent need to strengthen its back line.
Jacquet had previously been linked to a move to Chelsea, but he backed out, according to reports, due to the intense competition for the center back position in the Blues’ squad packed with players.
In contrast, Liverpool suffers from a significant lack of centre-back options. Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk (34 years old) and Frenchman Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires at the end of the season, are the only two options available to Dutch coach Arne Sloat, in light of the injuries to Joe Gomez and Italian Giovanni Leoni.
Jacquet, a French under-21 international, has only played 31 matches with Rennes since his promotion to the French club’s first team last season.
According to reports, Liverpool will pay an initial amount of 55 million pounds, with an additional 5 million in incentives.
