Pakistan will be the most polluted country in the world in 2025

Yesterday, a study showed that Pakistan topped the list of countries most polluted with smog in the world in 2025, as concentrations of dangerous fine particles known as “P. M2.5 » levels that exceed the limit recommended by the World Health Organization by up to 13 times.
The company “I. QAir, the Swiss air quality monitoring company, said in its annual report that only 13 countries and regions maintained average levels of polluted fine particles within the organization’s standard, that is, less than five micrograms per cubic meter during the past year, compared to only seven countries in 2024.
The report indicated that 130 countries and regions out of 143 that were monitored did not meet the WHO guidelines.
Bangladesh and Tajikistan came in second and third place on the list of most polluted countries, while Chad, which was the most polluted in 2024, ranked fourth last year.
The city of Loni in India topped the list of the most polluted cities in the world for the year 2025, with an average of fine polluted particles reaching 112.5 micrograms, followed by the city of Hotan in the Xinjiang region in northwest China, with an average of 109.6 micrograms.
All 25 of the most polluted cities in the world are concentrated within India, Pakistan, and China.
Only 14% of the world’s cities met WHO standards in 2025, down from 17% in 2024, and forest fires in Canada raised levels of fine polluted particles across the United States and into Europe.
Among the countries that met the standard in 2025 are Australia, Iceland, Estonia and Panama.
