Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed chairs the meeting of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Council

ABU DHABI, 9th February, 2018 (WAM) – His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Office for Special Affairs, chaired the meeting of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Council, which was held today at Beach Palace.
The Council reviewed the results and outcomes of the first edition of the “Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week,” which hosted, over a period of six days, a group of events, dialogue sessions, and specialized exhibitions in the field of smart mobility and autonomous systems technology, and attracted an elite group of experts, decision-makers and researchers from around the world to exchange ideas and discuss opportunities for strategic cooperation in this vital sector to shape the future of technologies and systems for the use of autonomous vehicles on land, sea, and air in the most important sectors of economic priority.
His Highness praised the efforts of all entities, from the public and private sectors, that participated in the success of this global event, which contributed to enhancing the emirate’s competitiveness on the global innovation map by consolidating its position in the field of design, development and operation of smart and autonomous systems, in support of efforts to improve the technological research and development system and accelerate the pace of transformation to adopting future technologies in various commercial, industrial and logistical fields that contribute to building a national economy based on knowledge and innovation.
His Highness directed to continue strengthening cooperation between the government and private sectors to move from the stage of operational experiments to the stage of employing independent systems on the ground in the most prominent strategic priority areas by stimulating and encouraging investment in developing the infrastructure of the smart mobility sector, qualifying human competencies, and preparing plans and policies that anticipate the future of the sector in keeping with the directions and aspirations of the national economic system.
The meeting discussed the most prominent current and future plans and initiatives supervised by the Council to support the process of technological and digital transformation in the smart mobility sector and improve the operational performance of autonomous self-propelled systems in vital industrial sectors in various land, sea and air environments as an essential pillar in enhancing economic diversification efforts in line with the goals and directions of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology.
The directions of the Autonomous Smart Systems Council reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to accelerating the growth of sectors based on advanced technology, and enhancing their contribution to the national economic system, by enabling an attractive environment for investment in this vital sector, supporting the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and developing national competencies, in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable economic development and raising the competitiveness of the national economy in the medium and long term.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the organizing committee of “Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week” to begin preparations for organizing the second edition of the event and expand the scope of its activities by attracting major world-leading companies and an elite group of experts and researchers specialized in smart self-propelled systems technology to enhance efforts to exchange experiences and knowledge between national competencies and emerging local companies, in addition to focusing on competitive events aimed at encouraging and incubating talent and highlighting the national innovation system in Technologies of the future, provided that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Intelligent Autonomous Systems Council to announce the date of the second edition and open the door for participation in this global event to local, regional and international bodies to review the latest technical solutions and technological innovations in the smart mobility sector.
