The Ministry launched a comprehensive campaign entitled “Readiness of Markets and Slaughterhouses for the Ramadan Season 1447 AH,” with the participation of the environmental system to raise operational readiness and ensure food safety.

Intensifying supervision

The campaign aimed to meet the needs of consumers with high efficiency during the peak season, while intensifying field supervision to establish standards. Compliance and sound health practices among service providers.

The Ministry recruited 428 police officers who carried out 6,281 intensive inspection tours, which resulted in monitoring 1,475 violations and warnings, which were dealt with immediately to impose discipline in the markets.

Food Safety

In the food safety file, the inspection teams destroyed more than 19.9 tons of vegetables and fruits. And dates, 1.6 tons of meat and poultry, and 727 kg of unfit for consumption fish.

The campaign report revealed that the slaughterhouses received 111,322 heads of livestock, where veterinary staff applied strict procedures that led to the complete killing of 970 carcasses, and 10,041 partial killings to ensure the safety of the meat.

The Ministry strengthened its laboratory oversight by examining 663 samples of agricultural products to ensure that they are free of pesticide residues, as the results showed that 658 samples conformed to the standard specifications.

Reducing food waste

In a humanitarian and environmental gesture, 23 grace-preserving associations participated in the campaign, and succeeded in rescuing and distributing 16,189 kg of safe food, in order to reinforce the principle of sustainability and reduce food waste.

The Ministry confirmed that these efforts It comes within the framework of consumer protection and improving the quality of life, and in implementation of the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in ensuring food security and safety.
