Emirates Medicine" Strengthens its international partnerships and reviews the project "Organ on a chip" During the World Health Expo

Dubai, 11 February / WAM / During its participation in the World Health Exhibition “WHX 2026”, currently held in Expo City, the Emirates Pharmaceutical Corporation signed two strategic memorandums of understanding with international partners, with the aim of enhancing environmental sustainability and regulatory innovation in the medical products sector, supporting efforts to achieve climate neutrality and consolidating decisions based on scientific evidence.
Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Director General of the Emirates Pharmaceutical Corporation, signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), which was signed by Professor Nadia Al Mazrouei, President of the Regional Branch of the Society.
This understanding aims to develop the field of health economics and evaluate health technologies in the country. It will also support the exchange of international experts, launch specialized training programs, and implement cooperative research projects related to medical products, which will contribute to improving the health sector in the country.
Al Kaabi also signed a memorandum of understanding with Roche Diagnostics Middle East, which was signed on the other hand by Guido Sander, General Manager of the Middle East Region, and Mr. Mohammed Al Amri, Head of the Company’s Diagnostics Department, in a step aimed at enhancing sustainability and achieving carbon neutrality and zero waste in pharmaceutical laboratories, as well as enriching technical expertise in the field of green laboratory design in the Emirates.
These two partnerships come within the framework of the strategic directions of the Emirates Drug Corporation aimed at achieving regulatory leadership and environmental sustainability, and promoting evidence-based decisions, which contributes to consolidating the UAE’s position as a leading regional and global center in regulating medical products and innovation in the field of health care.

Emphasizing its orientation towards adopting advanced technology and promoting innovation in the fields of pharmaceutical research and development.
Dr. Sheikha Al Mazrouei, Director of the National Reference Laboratories Department at the Emirates Drug Corporation, explained that the “organ-on-a-chip” technology provides accurate human models for drug testing, and contributes to improving the quality of scientific results and accelerating the stages of research and development of treatments, while reducing reliance on animal models. She stressed that adopting these advanced scientific solutions contributes to raising the efficiency of drug testing, enhancing the reliability of their results, and supporting national drug security.
The Emirates Pharmaceutical Corporation confirmed that the launch of the project comes within its mission to upgrade the national pharmaceutical model, encourage specialized research and development studies within the country, and support the adoption of innovative solutions that contribute to building an advanced and sustainable national pharmaceutical system.
The project is one of the advanced scientific solutions that simulates the functions of human organs using microelectronic chips, allowing the effectiveness and toxicity of drugs to be tested on models that mimic human physiology with high accuracy, and go beyond methods based on cell culture or animal models.
The project is in line with the Foundation’s mission to upgrade the national pharmaceutical model, encourage specialized research and development studies, and support the adoption of innovative solutions that contribute to building an advanced and sustainable national pharmaceutical system, thus enhancing the Foundation’s ability to keep pace with the best international practices in drug testing.
