Corporate bankruptcies in Austria reach a new record high

VIENNA, 13 February, 2020 (WAM) – Corporate bankruptcies in Austria reached a new record high in 2025, an increase of 144% compared to 2021.

Figures from the analysis of “corporate bankruptcies 2025”, conducted by CRIF, a company specializing in economic risk studies, showed that the capital, Vienna, once again recorded the highest number of corporate bankruptcies compared to all of Austria’s federal states, with 2,741 cases in 2025.

The figures showed that the increase in the number of corporate bankruptcies in Austria is a continuing phenomenon since 2021, and their continuation was indicated by an increase in the number of bankruptcies in 2024 by 8.5%, representing 7,392 bankruptcies compared on an annual basis.

The annual report revealed that the Austrian business environment is suffering from major challenges in 2025, most notably the contraction and decline in the performance of the economy, the decline in industrial production in the Eurozone, the increase in energy and labor costs and geopolitical turmoil, which have significantly burdened companies.
