Takaichi is renamed Prime Minister of Japan after her party wins the elections

Today, the Japanese House of Representatives officially renamed Sanae Takaichi as Prime Minister, ten days after her party’s historic election victory.
Takaichi, 64, was the first woman to assume the position of Prime Minister in Japan in October, and her party, the Liberal Democratic Party, won a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives in the early legislative elections held on February 8, winning 315 seats.
This result achieved by the Liberal Democratic Party is the best in its history, while its partner, the Japanese Innovation Party, won 36 seats, giving the ruling coalition 351 deputies in the 465-seat parliament.
In the previous parliament, the Liberal Democratic Party had 198 seats, and Al-Ibtihad 34.
Takaichi said that she seeks to strengthen the capabilities of the Japanese army, which may exacerbate tense relations with China, and also faces pressure to revive the faltering economy.
The elections also saw the anti-immigration Sancito Party increase its seats from two to 15, according to the results.
The opposition centrist Reform Alliance, which includes the Constitutional Democratic Party and the Komeito Party, a former partner of the Liberal Democratic Party, suffered a major setback, as it won only 49 seats after its tally was 167 seats in the previous parliament.
