Launching a campaign and competition "Environmentally distinguished house" Its third session in Al Ain

Al Ain, February 19 / WAM / The “Environmentally Distinctive House” campaign and competition, in its third session for the year 2026, was launched today at the Jebel Hafeet School headquarters in Al Ain, under the slogan “A conscious family…an environmentally distinguished family.”

The campaign – which was launched under the directives of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions – is one of the national environmental awareness initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.

The campaign comes in its third session coinciding with the Year of the Family, bearing its societal responsibility to enhance environmental awareness among families, targeting 3,000 homes during the holy month of Ramadan.

The competition is based on selecting the environmentally distinguished house according to the source sorting criteria for four types of waste (plastic, cardboard, papers, glass and metal), in addition to selecting the best ideal house and honoring it, with the aim of encouraging citizens to adopt sound environmental practices and enhancing community communication about the environmental services provided by government agencies.

The best home committed to rationalizing water and electricity consumption will also be selected and honored, which contributes to raising awareness of the importance of preserving energy sources, in support of wise leadership strategies in achieving sustainable development goals.

Female employees of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan institutions, members of the Environment and Climate Committee, and the Shamma Bint Mohammed Environmental Education Program team, in addition to volunteers, participate in implementing the campaign.

The best 10 homes that were distinguished by the correct sorting process and collected large quantities of sorted waste will be selected, in addition to selecting the best 3 homes that achieved a noticeable reduction in water and electricity consumption compared to previous months.

A honoring ceremony is scheduled to be held under the patronage of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan during next April, with a date to be determined later, after the conclusion of all targeted campaigns for this year.

The campaign was launched in 2019 at the initiative of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan and organized by the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Centre.

Al Nahyan Cultural Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer), and Al Ain Distribution Company.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among the residents of Al Ain, especially the Jebel Hafeet area, about the importance of preserving the general appearance of residential areas and reducing behaviors that are harmful to the environment, through the Shamma Bint Mohammed Environmental Education Program, and with the participation of volunteers within the “Your Volunteering is Entema” program.
