Jamal Musiala sets the date for his return to the German national team

Jamal Musiala expressed his confidence in his ability to return to the ranks of the German national football team at the end of next March, as he continues to develop with his team, Bayern Munich, after recovering from a serious leg injury.

Musiala participated for 78 minutes in the match in which Bayern beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2, in his eighth appearance since his return to the field last month, after suffering a broken leg and ankle last July.

When asked if he would be able to perform at his usual level with the German national team in the matches against Switzerland and Ghana, as part of the preparations for the World Cup in five weeks, Musiala said: “I think so.”

The player, who became the youngest person to achieve 100 victories in the German League before he turned 23, confirmed that his main goal is to participate in the World Cup next summer.

The German national team’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, is scheduled to announce the team’s roster for the two matches on March 19, as he hopes to rely on Musiala as a key player in the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Musiala and Bayern continue their cautious approach to gradually return him to his best levels.

Regarding the upcoming summit match against Borussia Dortmund next week, he said: “My focus is primarily on facing Dortmund and then the following matches.”

He added after the Frankfurt match: “I have to regain momentum. I run a lot and have good moments. My mentality is simply to make progress in every match and not think about football.”

He continued: “I wish everything would go a little faster,” but he expressed confidence that he would return to his full 100% readiness in due time.

For his part, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said: “For me, he is still at a stage where I do not want to put pressure on him to be the performance leader. “We are happy with the situation as it is now.”

Max Eberl, a member of the Bayern Board of Directors for Sports Affairs, agreed with him, stressing: “Every minute benefits him, and every week benefits him. For us, he is a player capable of making a difference, and we want him to be that way this season, and at best also with the German national team in the summer.”
