Corporate bankruptcies in Austria increased for the fifth year in a row

Vienna, February 24 / WAM / The number of company bankruptcies in Austria rose for the fifth year in a row to 6,809 cases, an increase of 4% compared to an annual basis, according to the latest figures issued by the Austrian Statistics Authority.
Manuela Link, Director of the Statistics Authority, explained that the three economic sectors most affected by insolvencies are services, followed by trade and construction almost equally.
Link explained that despite the recent increase, a clear reversal of the trend is on the horizon, after years that witnessed significant growth rates in corporate bankruptcies, the pace of which slowed significantly in 2025, and attributed the reasons to economic stability, low inflation and cost pressures, and the emergence of initial signs of recovery for the economy in the second half of last year.
On the other hand, official data showed startup activity continuing at a strong level in 2025, as the number of new registered startup companies increased by 9% compared to an annual basis to 23,314 new companies.
