Shocking revelation: Amorim’s dismissal cost Manchester United this amount

Financial documents revealed that the dismissal of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim from coaching Manchester United will cost the club about 16 million pounds ($21.6 million), after the end of his 14-month term on January 5, following a public dispute with the club’s management, as five of his assistants left with him.
According to a statement submitted to the New York Stock Exchange, the club included the payments under the item “Events subsequent to the accounting period,” explaining that 6.3 million pounds represents the write-off of intangible assets related to the contract, in addition to allocations amounting to a maximum of 15.9 million pounds for possible future settlements, which depend in part on the coach obtaining a new job during a specific period.
The accounts also showed that the club paid 6.3 million pounds to Sporting Lisbon as contractual compensation, noting that it had previously announced its commitment to pay 10 million pounds to the Portuguese club when Amorim was appointed to succeed former coach Erik ten Hag, whose departure cost reached 10.4 million pounds.
Estimates indicate that the total cost of the changes associated with Amorim’s appointment could reach 37.3 million pounds.
During his leadership of the team, Amorim won 25 matches out of 63, while United’s ranking fell to fifteenth place, the worst for the club since the 1973-1974 season.
But the team later improved under the leadership of current coach Michael Carrick, rising to fourth place after a series of positive results that strengthened its hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
