Tawam Hospital successfully corrects a severe curvature of the spine in a 4-year-old child

Al Ain, 6 March / WAM / SEHA, a subsidiary of PureHealth Group, the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, announced a new exceptional achievement at Tawam Hospital, represented by the successful correction of severe scoliosis in a four-year-old child with Stuffi-Wiedemann Syndrome.

The child had previously undergone several surgeries on his limbs, and suffered from thoracic curvature of the spine at an angle of 75 degrees. He did not respond to conservative treatment, including bracing. He also suffered from a clear deformity in the rib cage and asymmetry in the shoulders.

After conducting comprehensive examinations using CT scans and MRI to rule out congenital defects or neuroaxial malformations, the anesthesia team at Tawam Hospital carefully assessed his condition and prepared him for surgery.

The two-hour operation was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Abdul Nazir Moin, and included the use of “MAGEC – Magnetically Assisted Growing Rods” technology for minimally invasive correction from the back. The child recovered smoothly and left the hospital today, Friday, only three days after the operation.

Dr. Abdul-Nazir Moin, Consultant Physician, Pediatric Orthopedics and Spinal Deformity at Tawam Hospital, said that this case shows the hospital team’s ability to deal with cases of severe spinal curvature in children of different ages, even those suffering from complex and multiple medical conditions, through cooperation and coordination between the multidisciplinary team.

For his part, Dr. Basil Musamah Al-Arabid, Consultant Physician – Head of Orthopedic Surgery at Tawam Hospital, added that the success of this surgery reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing world-class care for children suffering from complex health conditions.

This achievement reflects Tawam Hospital’s position in the field of pediatric spinal care at the regional level, and confirms the expertise of its medical team of orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensive care doctors, and rehabilitation specialists in dealing with the most complex cases with precision and high professionalism.
