This is through specialized programs that contribute to reducing risks and enhancing safety in communities, as the Center implemented projects for in Yemen, Azerbaijan and Iraq with a value exceeding (294) million US dollars.
Saudi specific humanitarian projects
In this context, the Center continues to implement a project "Pores" As one of the most prominent qualitative humanitarian projects specialized in removing mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices that were planted randomly in various Yemeni governorates, and the resulting humanitarian effects that threaten the lives of the population and the necessities of daily living, at a total cost amounting to (290) million (161) thousand and (890) US dollars.
Since the launch of the project in June 2018 AD, its field teams have been able to extract (551) One thousand (189) mines, explosive devices and unexploded ordnance, and clearing an area amounting to (77) million (994) thousand and (540) square meters of Yemeni territory, as part of ongoing operations aimed at securing villages, roads, farms and vital facilities and creating a safer environment for the population.
The project is implemented by (746) field personnel, specialists and international experts who work in precise field conditions to treat one of the… The most prominent humanitarian challenges resulting from the spread of mines, which during the past periods caused injuries and damage to various segments of society, including project workers while carrying out their humanitarian duty in clearing Yemeni lands of mines.
Mine Removal
The Center’s efforts extended to Iraq through a financial support memorandum to finance mine surveying and clearance projects in a number of Iraqi governorates in the amount of one million US dollars.
The Center also supported a mine clearance project in Azerbaijan. In the amount of three million US dollars, as part of a comprehensive humanitarian approach aimed at reducing risks and protecting civilians in the affected areas.
The Center’s efforts are not limited to mine clearance work, but rather extend to mitigating their humanitarian effects through the prosthetic limbs program, which aims to provide physical rehabilitation services for the injured, and provide high-quality prosthetic limbs, in order to help the beneficiaries regain their ability to move, integrate into society, and lead their lives normally. Nearly (92) thousand individuals benefited from it.
International Danger Awareness Day Mines
These efforts come at a time when mines still represent a global humanitarian challenge, as United Nations estimates indicate that one person is killed or injured on average every hour due to mines, unexploded ordnance, or explosive devices, in light of their widespread effects on civilians, especially children.
On International Mine Awareness Day, corresponding to April 4 of each year, the King Salman Relief Center continues its support for international efforts aimed at combating mines, and strengthening Raising awareness of its dangers, and contributing to building safer and more stable environments.
