Continuing attacks in Gaza endanger civilians, and further displacement in the West Bank

In the daily press conference, Dujarric said that last Saturday, it was reported that two people, including an infant, were injured as a result of gunfire at a United Nations school, used as a shelter for displaced people in the Jabalia camp.
Dujarric added: “We reaffirm the need to provide protection for civilians and civilian facilities at all times.”.
Receiving shipments from the Kerem Shalom and Zikim crossings
Dujarric quoted the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) as saying that yesterday, Wednesday, UN teams received shipments of fuel, food, medical supplies, clothing, and other supplies through the only two shipping crossings currently operating, which are the Kerem Shalom crossing and the Zikim crossing.
He pointed out that shipments received by humanitarian workers were limited on Tuesday to the Kerem Shalom crossing only, because receiving and unloading activities at the Zikim crossing have so far only been allowed on alternating days, adding: “We wish the crossing was open on a daily basis.”.
Awareness of the dangers of unexploded ordnance
Dujarric also quoted partners working in the field of mine action as saying that during the past week, they provided awareness sessions to more than 12,000 people in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Khan Yunis, which addressed the risks associated with unexploded ordnance.
He recalled that more than 12 incidents have occurred so far since January 1, resulting in more than 30 people being injured.
Dujarric said: “Addressing this threat more effectively requires obtaining the necessary permits to bring critical equipment into the Gaza Strip and enable the full range of explosive ordnance disposal activities to be carried out.”.
He noted that continued restrictions – including restrictions on the entry of items listed as “dual-use” or deemed inhumane in nature (including equipment for explosive ordnance disposal) – continued to hamper the humanitarian response.
Displacement in the West Bank
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports continued high levels of displacement in the West Bank; During the first two weeks of April, the displacement of about 150 people was recorded.
He added that this brings the total number of displaced people so far in 2026 to more than 2,500 people, including more than 1,100 children.
The office explained that this displacement is mostly due to settler violence and restrictions on freedom of movement, but it is also linked to evictions and demolitions of Palestinian homes.
