"Dubai roads" The expansion of Hessa Street will be opened to increase traffic capacity and improve connectivity between the main axes

DUBAI, 19 APRIL / WAM / Today, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority opened all work on the Hessa Street development project in the direction from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, with a length of 4.5 km, after expanding the street and implementing bridges at its intersections with Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Asayel Street, First Al Khail Street and Al Khail Road, with a capacity of four lanes in each direction, which contributes to providing smooth traffic movement between Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads in both directions, and reducing travel time from 15 minutes to 4 minutes.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, confirmed that the project comes in implementation of the directives of the wise leadership to complete the development of the infrastructure of the road network, enhance the flow of traffic, and keep pace with urban and population growth, pointing out that Hessa Street is one of the most important strategic road axes in the Emirate of Dubai, and serves residential and development areas with a population of more than 640 thousand people, and contributes to increasing the capacity from 8,000 vehicles per hour. In both directions, the capacity reached 16 thousand vehicles per hour, an increase of 100%.

He said that the Hessa Street development project extends from its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to its intersection with Al Khail Street, with a length of 4.5 km, and includes developing four main intersections on Hessa Street, with Sheikh Zayed Street, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Street, in addition to increasing the number of lanes on Hessa Street from two lanes to four lanes in each direction, which contributes to increasing the street’s capacity by 100%, to reach 16,000 vehicles per hour in Both directions.

The project included the development of four main intersections through the implementation of ramps, bridges and traffic improvements, in a way that enhances the efficiency of traffic movement along the street and connects it to the main axes in the emirate.

The Authority began implementing the second phase of the project from its intersection with Al Khail Road to its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, with a length of 3 kilometers. It includes developing three major intersections by implementing bridges with a length of 8,835 meters and a tunnel with a length of 480 metres, which contributes to doubling the capacity by 100%, and reducing the travel time from 24 minutes to 5 minutes.

In its second phase, the project serves a number of residential and development areas, including Jumeirah Village Circle, Arjan, Dubai Science Park, Al Barsha South, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Jumeirah Islands, Barsha Heights, The Greens, and Emirates Hills. It also provides direct traffic between Al Khail and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Roads, benefiting about 650,000 people, while the volume of traffic on the roads covered by the second phase is estimated at about half a million trips per day.
