Philippine volcano destroys 1,230 hectares of crops

The Philippine Space Agency reported that about 1,230 hectares of agricultural crops were damaged by volcanic flows from Mayon Volcano. The agency said that its satellite data showed that the affected area covered 1,039 hectares of rice and 191 hectares of other crops, according to the Manila Times. The agency added that about 158 ​​kilometers of roads were damaged by ash fall.

More than 300 families were evacuated on May 4, after huge amounts of ash emitted from Mayon Volcano. The volcano, which has a height of 2,462 meters (8,077 feet), is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Philippines, due to its almost perfect conical shape.
