A vehicle driven by a “non-compliant” driver hits a girl on a pedestrian crossing in Dubai

A girl was injured as a result of a collision with a vehicle driven by a person while she was crossing a pedestrian crossing on her bicycle, according to the Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Jumaa bin Suwaidan, who indicated that she was taken to the hospital to receive treatment.
In detail, the Dubai Police General Command called on drivers to reduce speeds and commit to giving pedestrians full priority while crossing roads, stressing that pedestrian safety represents a strategic priority, and that granting them the right to cross is not only related to the presence of designated lines, but rather to the necessity of constant attention to them on various internal and residential roads.
Brigadier General Jumaa bin Suwaidan stressed the importance of vehicle drivers’ commitment to reducing speeds and paying attention to pedestrian movement, especially near transit areas, industrial areas and residential neighbourhoods, stressing that giving pedestrians preference contributes directly to enhancing traffic safety and reducing accidents.
He explained that the violation of not giving priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing, according to Clause (69), exposes the driver to a fine of 500 dirhams in addition to six traffic points, given the direct danger to lives this violation poses.
This call came after a collision occurred on one of the internal streets in the first Yalayis area, “Mira Complex,” between a vehicle and a bicycle, as a result of the vehicle driver’s failure to give priority while crossing, which resulted in a girl being seriously injured, after which she was transferred to the hospital to receive treatment.
Bin Suwaidan pointed out that inspection experts from the Traffic Accident Department moved to the accident site to collect evidence and determine the exact causes of the accident, while traffic patrols worked to organize traffic, secure the site, and facilitate the arrival of rescue and ambulance teams.
