A gunman kills 4 people and wounds 8 in Türkiye

A gunman near the city of Mersin in southern Türkiye on Monday killed four people and wounded eight others, according to what several local media reported.

The non-governmental agencies DHA and IHA said that the suspect being pursued first opened fire inside a restaurant, killing its owner and an employee and wounding several customers, before shooting two other men while fleeing.

Scenes shown by local media showed a helicopter flying over the area searching for the suspect, in addition to ambulances transporting wounded people to a nearby hospital.

The two aforementioned agencies added that one of the victims was a shepherd who was leading his herd near the restaurant where the suspect opened fire, noting that it is located along a road 40 kilometers northeast of Mersin.

DHA reported that the shooter was a 17-year-old young man.
