Modi visits the Colosseum with Meloni and they take selfies

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the Colosseum, one of the greatest and largest architectural monuments built in the Roman Empire, and took selfies and admired the picturesque view of Rome ahead of talks on trade in Rome on Wednesday.

In a video clip posted on “X,” Melonie thanked Moody for bringing him a box of “Melody” candy during his visit, and the two appeared laughing at the gift that bore two syllables of their names.

After a European tour, Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday in the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Italy in 26 years.

Modi had previously visited Italy to attend the G20 summit in 2021 and the G7 summit in 2024.

In a joint editorial published in the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Modi and Meloni stated their desire to “achieve and even exceed the target of 20 billion euros ($23 billion) of trade between Italy and India by 2029.”

They noted that sectors of particular interest include defence, aviation, auto parts, clean technologies and textiles.

“We seek to build a strong partnership that brings together distinguished Italian design, high-end manufacturing, world-class supercomputers… India’s rapid economic growth, its engineering talent, the scale of its operations, and its environment of innovation and entrepreneurship,” they said.

On Wednesday, the two leaders will hold bilateral talks at Villa Pamphili, a 17th-century villa located west of the city center.

Modi said on “X” that he would visit the headquarters of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, “confirming India’s commitment to multilateralism and global food security.”
