"Abu Dhabi Health" Launches the world’s first smart surgical network powered by artificial intelligence

ABU DHABI, 22nd May / WAM / The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, launched the first smart surgical network of its kind in the world supported by artificial intelligence, in a qualitative step that embodies Abu Dhabi’s leadership in harnessing advanced technologies and artificial intelligence to reshape the features of the future of health and surgical care at the global level.
The initiative is based on an integrated digital health infrastructure developed by Abu Dhabi, with the aim of linking operating rooms within a unified smart system based on real-time clinical data and insights, thus enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of surgical operations, supporting clinical decision-making, and improving patients’ experience and health outcomes, as well as consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center for developing and applying surgical artificial intelligence solutions on a large scale.
The network relies on Johnson & Johnson’s open digital system, Polyphonic™, in cooperation with existing technology partners, including Amazon Web Services, NVIDIA, and Core42, which contributes to building an intelligent, interconnected surgical environment that allows immediate analysis of data, enhances the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and supports the development of a renewed health model that continuously learns and develops with every surgical procedure.
The network will connect the operating rooms of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, PureHealth, Mediclinic Group, and NMC Healthcare, giving medical teams real-time access to advanced analytics and accurate clinical insights that support surgeons while providing care, and contribute to enhancing the quality of surgical operations, accelerating joint learning, raising the efficiency of clinical performance, and driving continuous innovation across various health institutions.
Her Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said that Abu Dhabi continues to consolidate its position among the most advanced smart health systems in the world, by employing data, artificial intelligence, and shared knowledge to transform innovation into a sustainable health impact.
She stressed that the smart surgical network, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, establishes a more accurate, efficient and proactive global surgical model that enables doctors to make smarter clinical decisions, and turns every surgical operation into a source of knowledge that contributes to the development of subsequent operations and enhances levels of safety and accuracy.
Her Excellency added that the initiative brings together, under a unified governance umbrella led by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, hospitals, academic institutions, research partners and technology pioneers, in a way that supports the collection and analysis of surgical data in a safe and organized manner, while contributing to the development of the next generation of surgical artificial intelligence solutions, which establishes a continuous learning model that accelerates the pace of innovation, supports the safe use of advanced surgical solutions, and enhances clinical cooperation at the global level.
For his part, Hani Abu Halqa, Head of the Surgery Group in the Medical Technology Sector at Johnson & Johnson, stressed that cooperation with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi embodies a common vision to accelerate the development of the new generation of surgical artificial intelligence solutions, and advance the horizons of medical innovation in a way that enhances support for surgeons and improves the quality of health care provided to patients around the world.
For patients, this initiative makes it possible to perform more accurate surgeries, enhance the consistency of care standards, and improve the surgical experience in a comprehensive way, while providing doctors with smarter tools to support decision-making, and broader opportunities for learning and continuous professional development, which enhances the efficiency of the health system and consolidates Abu Dhabi’s position at the forefront of medical innovation globally.
