10 years imprisonment for three defendants for supporting Iranian terrorist attacks on Bahrain and publishing banned statements and clips

The Chief of the Terrorist Crimes Prosecution in Bahrain stated that the High Criminal Court, in its session held today, issued rulings in separate cases related to three defendants supporting and encouraging the Iranian terrorist attacks that targeted the Kingdom of Bahrain, obtaining vital data prohibited from being circulated, and photographing places prohibited from being photographed, during the brutal aggression against the Kingdom. The court ruled that the three defendants were convicted of ten years in prison, and fined each of them an amount of 2,000 dinars, in addition to Confiscation of seized items.

The Bahraini Public Prosecution had received reports from the Anti-Cybercrime Department monitoring accounts on social media sites that included photos, video clips, and comments that included praise and support for hostile and terrorist acts, in addition to displaying websites and vital data that is considered information prohibited from being published, obtained, or circulated.

The investigations resulted in identifying those in charge of those accounts, and then the Public Prosecution began investigations immediately upon receiving those reports. It interrogated the defendants who confessed to the accusations attributed to them, listened to the statements of witnesses, and also assigned technical experts to examine the seized electronic devices, the results of whose examination confirmed that the defendants had committed the facts charged to them.

Accordingly, the Public Prosecution ordered the defendants to be referred to the High Criminal Court, where the cases were heard over several sessions during which all established legal guarantees were taken into account, including the presence of the defendants’ lawyers and enabling them to express their defence, until the court issued its rulings advanced in today’s session.
