"Community Development Abu Dhabi" Announces the results of the fourth session of "Sports and physical activity questionnaire"

ABU DHABI, 1st June / WAM / The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, announced the results of the fourth session of the Physical and Sports Activity Survey for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for the year 2025, which showed a noticeable improvement in the indicators of physical activity and community awareness of sports events, in a direct reflection of the emirate’s efforts to enhance the quality of life and establish the culture of sports as a sustainable lifestyle.
The number of responses in the 2025 cycle reached about 31,000, compared to 21,000 in the 2024 cycle, and 19,000 in the 2023 cycle, which reflects the expansion of the scope of outreach to various segments of society through cooperation with partners from governmental and semi-governmental agencies, universities and colleges.
The results of the questionnaire revealed an increase in the rate of general physical activity according to the definition of the World Health Organization to 60.3%, compared to 53.6% in the year 2024, as the World Health Organization defines adequate physical activity for adults as practicing at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week or 75 minutes of high-intensity physical activity, and the percentage of citizens who practice physical activity according to the same definition rose to 54.3% compared to 45.6% in the previous year, which reflects progress. Noticeable rates of physical activity at the community level.
The results showed an increase in the participation rate of children and adolescents who achieve 60 minutes of physical activity daily, reaching 14.8% compared to 12.5% in 2024, in addition to an increase in the participation rate of people of determination in sports activities weekly according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization to 46.5% compared to 43.7% in 2024.
In terms of satisfaction indicators, the percentage of satisfaction with sporting events and activities organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and its affiliated facilities increased to 83% compared to 78% in 2024, and the percentage of satisfaction with sports facilities, infrastructure and services increased to 78% compared to 76% in 2024.
The results of the questionnaire recorded a growth in the level of awareness of community sporting events, as the awareness rate rose from 21% to 25%, and awareness of international sporting events hosted by Abu Dhabi witnessed an increase from 22% in the 2024 session to 24% in the 2025 session.
His Excellency Mohammed Hilal Al Balushi, Executive Director of the Social Participation and Empowerment Sector at the Department of Community Development, said: “The results of the 2025 Physical and Sports Activity Survey reflect the qualitative development witnessed by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in consolidating the culture of sports as a sustainable way of life, supported by integrated efforts between government agencies, the private sector and community institutions. This improvement comes as a result of the expansion of sports and community infrastructure, increasing walking and cycling paths, and enhancing sports programs directed at different age groups, including people of determination and senior citizens.”
He added: “The indicators confirm an ongoing commitment to developing integrated policies, strategies, and innovative initiatives that enhance the quality of life in its comprehensive sense, establish healthy and active lifestyles, support community cohesion, and enable various segments of society to contribute effectively to the process of sustainable development. The department adopts a scientific approach based on data and numbers in analyzing reality and measuring impact, ensuring the design of more effective and sustainable interventions and policies, in line with the aspirations of our wise leadership to invest in people as the focus of development.” “And its purpose.”
Hamda Al Mansouri, Executive Director of the Strategic Affairs Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, confirmed that the results of the fourth session reflect a noticeable increase in the rate of individuals practicing physical activity in the emirate, which embodies the success of sports initiatives in motivating community members to adopt healthier and more active lifestyles. This comes in line with the plans of the Department of Community Development and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council aimed at building an active and sustainable sports community.
She added: “The questionnaire cycles contributed to providing accurate and valuable indicators about the level of physical activity in society, which helped in developing sports initiatives and programs and promoting a culture of healthy living among various segments of society. The fourth cycle came to strengthen these efforts, by providing more accurate and comprehensive data on the impact of sports events and community tournaments organized in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”
She pointed out that the data provides the opportunity to study indicators and analyze them more deeply, develop innovative solutions that contribute to raising the level of community participation in sports activities, and achieve a sustainable positive impact on the health and quality of life of community members.
