Trump appoints the head of the Housing Finance Agency as interim Director of National Intelligence

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the appointment of Bill Bolt, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as interim director of US National Intelligence, succeeding Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned from her position last month.
Trump confirmed, in a blog post on the Truth Social platform, that Bolt will at the same time continue his duties as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and head of the two mortgage financing institutions, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Bloomberg reported that the head of the Housing Authority lacks “military or intelligence experience,” noting that he is known as one of Trump’s close and loyal allies.
The decision comes after Tulsi Gabbard announced that she will step down from the position of Director of National Intelligence this month, due to her husband’s illness.
Since March 2025, Bolt has been head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which supervises the real estate financing market in the United States.
