Digital health in the UAE…an integrated system that enhances the quality of care and the efficiency of services

Abu Dhabi, 3 July / WAM / The UAE has continued to consolidate its leadership in the field of digital health, becoming one of the basic pillars of the modern healthcare system, based on an advanced digital structure, smart technologies, and an interconnected national system for exchanging health data, which supports the efficiency of medical services, raises the quality of care, accelerates access to treatment, and establishes a health model based on innovation and data.

The digital health system in the country relies on harnessing the latest technologies in the various stages of care provision, starting with booking appointments electronically, providing remote medical consultations, and managing electronic health records, all the way to employing artificial intelligence to support diagnosis, analyze medical data, and support health personnel in making treatment decisions, which contributes to developing health services and enhancing performance efficiency.

In this context, the UAE launched the “My Care” platform, the unified national medical record affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Community Protection, which allows the secure exchange of health data between medical facilities across the country, ensuring continuity of care, providing medical personnel with immediate access to the patient’s medical history, and reducing the repetition of unnecessary medical examinations and procedures, which contributes to raising the efficiency of services and improving the quality of care.

The organization relies on the “Wareed” system to manage electronic medical records and clinical operations in its hospitals and health facilities. The system is linked to the “Reayati” platform for exchanging health data, which enhances the integration of medical information and ensures the smooth transfer of it between health authorities in accordance with the highest standards of quality and privacy.

At the local level, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has established a health data exchange system through the “Malfi” platform, while the Emirate of Dubai has strengthened this trend through the “Nabed” platform. The two platforms are linked to the “My Care” platform for exchanging health information at the national level, which has contributed to the establishment of an interconnected network of electronic health records, which supports continuity of care, raises the efficiency of therapeutic services, and enhances data-based medical decision-making.

The path of digital transformation extended to include the development of the smart health services system, by allowing a wide range of services to be completed electronically, including booking appointments, managing prescriptions, issuing sick leaves, following up on health files, and viewing the results of laboratory tests, which provides an easier and faster experience for customers, enhances the efficiency of service provision and improves the quality of care.

Digital health has played a prominent role in expanding the scope of telemedicine services, which allow patients to obtain medical consultations and health follow-up in many cases without the need to visit health facilities, which supports continuity of care, increases the efficiency of investment of health resources, and expands access to medical services.

Artificial intelligence stands out as one of the main drivers of digital transformation in the health sector, as it is used in analyzing medical images, early detection of diseases, predicting health complications, and analyzing big data, which supports precision medicine applications, enhances the accuracy of diagnosis, and contributes to providing personalized health care based on the health characteristics of each patient.

By 2026, digital health in the UAE will become an integrated system based on electronic linkage of health data, unified medical records, artificial intelligence, smart health services, and telemedicine, supported by the integration of “Reayati” with “Malfi” and “Nabed” and linking the “Wareed” system, which enhances the exchange of health data, supports data-based medical decision-making, improves the efficiency of the health care system, and consolidates the readiness of the health sector, to keep pace with the goals of the “We Are the Emirates” vision. 2031″.
