“It’s over.” Neymar hints at the end of his international career after Brazil’s exit from the World Cup

After scoring a goal against Norway, and Brazil losing by one goal to two and being eliminated from the round of 16 of the World Cup, the Brazilian player, Neymar, indicated that this match may be his last with his country’s national team.

The striker scored his goal via a penalty kick in the final seconds of stoppage time in the second half of the confrontation that decided the exit of Brazil, winners of the title five times.

In a brief comment after the match with Bruno Formiga, an analyst for the Brazilian channel GETV, Neymar indicated that his career with the Brazilian national team was “over.”

Neymar said: “I tried, I tried, and now it’s over! I started here, and I finished here,” referring to the stadium in New Jersey, where he played his first match with Brazil, when they friendlyized with the United States in 2010.

The 34-year-old broke down in tears after the match that saw Brazil fail to qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 1990.

Brazil is now heading towards its longest period without winning a World Cup title, since winning the tournament for the first time. By 2030, 28 years will have passed without the cup being lifted.

If Neymar confirms his retirement from international football, he will end his career with Brazil with 80 goals and 58 assists in 130 matches.

Neymar won many titles at club level, but the only title he won with the Brazilian national team was in the Confederations Cup in 2013.
