The Sharjah Chamber is looking to enhance economic and investment cooperation with Uganda and Jordan

Al Shazqa, 12 July / WAM / The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed ways to enhance economic and trade relations with the Republic of Uganda, stressing its keenness to open new horizons for the business communities in the two countries, and to stimulate investment partnerships in various vital sectors in a way that serves mutual interests and enhances Sharjah’s position as a leading global destination for business and investment.
This came during a meeting held at the Chamber’s headquarters, bringing together His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with His Excellency Zaki and Nomi Kebede, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the country, in the presence of His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General, and Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of the Communications and Business Sector, along with a number of officials.
The two sides discussed the prospects for growing economic cooperation between Sharjah and Uganda, which has witnessed significant development in the past few years thanks to the joint efforts of both parties, which contributed to establishing qualitative investment partnerships in multiple sectors.
The meeting also touched on the importance of doubling work and joint efforts to find innovative initiatives aimed at achieving an ideal economic partnership and expanding communication channels between the business communities in Sharjah and Uganda, in addition to providing facilities for investors to explore promising opportunities in both countries.
His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda to the country in supporting the work of the Chamber and consolidating areas of economic and commercial cooperation between the business communities in Sharjah and Uganda, stressing that the investment environment in the Emirate of Sharjah provides promising opportunities for Ugandan companies wishing to expand and venture into regional and international markets, in light of the emirate’s distinguished strategic location and advanced infrastructure that supports business growth in various sectors, indicating the Chamber’s constant readiness. To provide all facilities and services that support Ugandan investors and facilitate their access to regional markets from Sharjah.
For his part, His Excellency Zaki and Nomi Kebede reviewed the preliminary program for his country’s delegation’s upcoming visit to the UAE during next October, as the delegation includes official officials, businessmen and representatives of major Ugandan companies at high levels, to discuss new commercial partnerships and expand areas of investment, while the Sharjah Chamber welcomed the upcoming delegation and expressed its readiness to coordinate business meetings with representatives of the business community in the emirate.
The Ugandan side highlighted the exceptional growth in the volume of bilateral trade between the UAE and the Republic of Uganda, which rose from $600 million in 2018 to $4.7 billion, and reflects the depth of relations and the great economic opportunities available between the two sides, praising the pioneering role and continuous support provided by the Sharjah Chamber towards a number of vital development projects that the Chamber is participating in implementing, stressing Uganda’s aspiration to benefit from the expertise and economic capabilities of the Sharjah Chamber to support the process of sustainable development in Uganda.
In a related context, His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais met with His Excellency Omar Al Otoum, Consul General of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, where the meeting focused on ways to consolidate economic relations and open broader areas for commercial and investment partnership between the two sides.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Jordanian Consul learned about the portfolio of integrated services provided by the Sharjah Chamber to the business community and companies through many innovative programs and initiatives that contribute to supporting the business environment, facilitating procedures and stimulating innovation and competitiveness.
The two sides discussed the importance of sustaining communication and joint coordination between the Chamber and the Jordanian Consulate, which contributes to stimulating and supporting the private sector in the two brotherly countries to continue its role in advancing joint economic development. The possibility of cooperation was also discussed in organizing joint events and forums aimed at introducing the business community and companies in Sharjah to the distinguished investment opportunities in Jordan, in addition to organizing bilateral business meetings that bring together companies and economic institutions from both sides in various sectors and fields with competitive advantage, which contributes to concluding successful commercial deals and doubling the volume of trade exchange between them.
