Qatar declares four days of public mourning following the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa

The Qatari Emiri Diwan announced public mourning throughout the country over the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, for a period of four days, starting today, Sunday.

The Qatar News Agency reported that work in ministries, other government agencies, public bodies and institutions will be suspended, starting tomorrow, Monday, with employees starting their work next Sunday. Flags across the country are also flown at half-staff throughout the mourning period.

The Amiri Diwan announced that prayers over the body of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will be held after the Maghrib prayer today, Sunday, at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, and then his body will be buried in the Lusail Cemetery.

The Diwan also indicated that the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, will receive mourners, including leaders of countries, members of the ruling family, notables, and citizens, at Lusail Palace, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, corresponding to July 13, 14, and 15, 2026, during the morning period from eight in the morning until eleven thirty in the morning, and in the evening period from after the afternoon prayer until the evening prayer.
