New Zealand lifts warning "tsunami" After the earthquake
Today, New Zealand authorities lifted a was triggered by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake off the west coast of the South Island.
The National Emergency Management Agency wrote: "This announcement indicates that the warning has been lifted"explaining that the strength of the earthquake was less than indicated by initial estimates.
After the agency initially advised residents in the affected areas to move immediately to higher areas, it recommended monitoring the strong and unusual currents near the shore.
