Empower signs a contract to establish a new cooling station in Al Sufouh with a capacity of 23,400 refrigeration tons

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC “Empower” announced the conclusion of a contract to establish a new district cooling station in Al Sufouh 2 with a production capacity of 23,400 refrigeration tons, in a step that reflects its commitment to keeping pace with the rapid urban growth in Dubai, and meeting the increasing demand for sustainable and highly efficient district cooling services.

The corporation confirmed that the construction work of the station has begun according to the approved schedule, and under the direct supervision of Empower’s internal projects team, with construction work expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2027.

The new station is part of Empower’s plans to enhance its production capabilities and expand the district cooling network in Dubai, in a way that supports sustainable urban growth and ensures the provision of reliable and highly efficient cooling services to vital areas in the emirate.

The station will provide district cooling services to a wide range of mixed-use buildings in the Al Sufouh 2 area, including commercial buildings, office towers, hotels, residential complexes, and hospitality and education facilities.

The most prominent of these projects is the “Innovation Center”, which is considered one of the prominent landmarks in the region, along with a number of other development projects. This meets the needs of the growing region and ensures the provision of sustainable and highly efficient cooling services to various sectors.

It will also rely on the latest district cooling technologies, including thermal energy storage (TES) technologies and the use of treated wastewater (TSE), to produce and pump chilled water to buildings through heat exchange plants, which contributes to raising the efficiency of energy and water consumption, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting the goals of the UAE and the Emirate of Dubai in achieving climate neutrality.

The new station represents an extension of Empower’s efforts to develop advanced district cooling stations that play a pivotal role in supporting green building standards and sustainability, by providing highly efficient cooling solutions that contribute to reducing energy consumption and reducing carbon emissions, thus enhancing the environmental performance of buildings and raising the efficiency of resource use.

These stations also support Dubai’s trends towards expanding sustainable buildings, and are in line with the UAE’s goals to achieve climate neutrality and promote the green economy.
