"Emirates Copyright" Participates in a session on intellectual property within "Hong Kong Book"

Sharjah, July 21 / WAM / The Emirates Copyright Management Association participated in the roundtable session organized by the International Federation of Copyright Organizations (IFRRO) on intellectual property rights, within the activities of the Hong Kong International Book Fair 2026, as the first collective management organization representing authors and publishers in the UAE and the first body to represent Arabic books within the Federation.

The association’s participation in this event comes within the framework of its efforts to strengthen the UAE’s position as an active partner in developing the collective management system for copyrights, and as an affirmation of its growing role in representing the Arab publishing sector at the global level.

During the session, the association reviewed the Emirati experience in building an advanced collective management system and discussed with representatives of collective management organizations from countries around the world the most prominent transformations and challenges taking place in the copyright sector and the best international practices for developing rights protection mechanisms in light of the accelerating digital environment.

The Society held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of members of the International Federation of Copyright Organizations. To discuss signing new cooperation agreements that contribute to expanding its global partnership network, activating the exchange of experiences, and developing international cooperation frameworks in the field of copyright protection and collective management.

These meetings are an extension of the association’s journey in building a growing international relations network. It signed 12 bilateral agreements with collective management organizations in Singapore, Slovenia, Poland, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Ireland, India, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia, which contribute to consolidating international protection for Emirati works and expanding legal access to global content within the UAE through licensing systems, ensuring that rights holders receive their fair rights when using their works across borders.

Mohammed bin Dukhain Al Matroushi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Copyright Management Association, said that participation in the Hong Kong International Book Fair represents a new stage in the association’s journey towards strengthening its global presence and developing its network of partnerships with the most prominent collective management organizations around the world.

He added that each new cooperation agreement opens broader horizons for protecting Emirati works internationally and supports the access of educational and cultural institutions in the Emirates to diverse global content within legal frameworks that respect the rights of the author and publisher, thus strengthening the creative economy system and consolidating the UAE’s position as an effective partner in developing the intellectual property protection system at the international level.
