The Asian Paralympic Committee reviews opportunities to enhance women’s participation in sports competitions
Taipei, July 23 / WAM / The Asian Paralympic Committee reviewed opportunities to enhance women’s participation in sports competitions and support their chances in Paralympic competitions at the continental and international levels.
This came during the second symposium, “Women in Sports,” organized by the committee in Taipei, China, with the participation of leaders and female athletes from Paralympic committees from various parts of Asia, in addition to an Emirati participation represented by Salama Al Khatri, a player for the UAE Paralympic cycling team and vice president of the Players Council of the Asian Paralympic Committee.
Majid Al-Osaimi, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, stressed that empowering women through sport is one of the main axes of the committee’s strategic plan, pointing to continuing work on preparing a new generation of women leaders, and providing more opportunities for women at various levels of the Paralympic movement.
He expressed his appreciation to the Paralympic Committee in Taipei and the Ministry of Sports for hosting and organizing the symposium, stressing that it formed an important platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, promoting women’s leadership, and supporting women’s participation in Paralympic sports at the level of the Asian continent.
Salama Al Khatri stressed that the symposium provided an opportunity to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences among the participants, thus contributing to expanding women’s participation in the Paralympic movement.
She said that the symposium brought together leaders and athletes from various Asian countries, along with representatives of the Paralympic Committees of the Americas and Europe, which allowed for the exchange of experiences and the building of partnerships that support the development of sports for people of determination and enhance the presence of women in the sports and leadership fields.
She added that the symposium sessions discussed ways to empower women in sports, and provide the necessary resources and support to enhance their chances of success and excellence, expressing her thanks to the Asian Paralympic Committee for organizing the event, and the UAE National Paralympic Committee for providing the opportunity to participate in it.
