16 players represent Sharjah in "Arabic chess"
Sharjah, July 24 / WAM / The Sharjah Cultural Chess Club is participating in the Arab Chess Championship for youth and juniors, organized by the Arab Chess Federation in cooperation with the Egyptian Chess Federation in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, during the period from July 28 to August 5, 2026, with the participation of 400 players, both male and female, representing 18 countries in one of the largest Arab championships for the age groups.
The Sharjah Cultural Chess Club is represented in the tournament by 16 players, including 12 players participating in the club’s delegation in various age groups. They are: Zayed Sultan Al Taher (under 20 years), Saud Jaber Al Zarouni, Ahmed Ali Bamtarif (under 18 years), Sultan Jaber Al Zarouni (under 16 years), Sultan Ahmed Al Muhairi (under 14 years), Saqr Issa Khamis and Ibrahim Abdul Wahab. Al-Obaidli (under 12 years), Abdul Rahman Saleh Al Ali, Saif Abdul Wahab Al-Obaidli, Fahd Abdul Rahman Al-Muaini (under 10 years), and Saif Ahmed Abu Khalil and Maid Ali Bamtarif (under 8 years).
Four of the club’s players are also participating in the UAE national team: Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Taher (U20), Hamad Shuaib Al Kaf (U18), Rashid Hussein Al Hammadi (U14), and Mohammed Rashid Al Muaini (U10).
Dr. Khalifa Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club and head of the club’s delegation, confirmed that participation in the tournament represents an important milestone within the players’ preparation program, extending his thanks and appreciation to the Sharjah Sports Council, headed by Sheikh Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, for its continuous support for the club and its constant keenness to provide all the ingredients for success, which has contributed to strengthening the club’s journey and achieving many achievements at the local and external levels.
He added that participation comes within the club’s strategy aimed at providing the best opportunities for interaction for its players with the elite Arab chess champions, which contributes to developing their technical levels, gaining more experience, and preparing them for the upcoming continental and international competitions, in light of the great interest the club attaches to the age-level sector, which has resulted in the emergence of many talents capable of representing the country in foreign forums.
He expressed pride that four of the club’s players represent the UAE national team in the Arab Championship, which reflects the quality of the technical work and player preparation programs within the club and confirms the position that the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club has reached in discovering and refining talent until it has become one of the most prominent tributaries of the national teams in various age groups.
He explained that the tournament witnesses a strong participation of 400 male and female players, which gives our players an ideal opportunity to interact and gain more experience, in addition to competing to achieve the best results. He expressed his confidence that all players participating with the club delegation or within the ranks of the UAE national team will be the best ambassadors for Emirati chess.
