Requirements for importing medical devices and supplies

The authority made fundamental amendments to the requirements for importing medical devices and supplies compared to the previous version.

The new updates canceled the previous details related to the maintenance and renewal of used devices, only requiring compliance with the requirements for importing and clearing medical devices and supplies published on its official website.

The regulations added special requirements for consignments received after participating in events or exhibitions outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the aim of trading them in local markets.

Controls for clearing imported products

The Authority clarified the necessity of submitting the previous export statement, and a copy of the statement issued by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, with the analysis being carried out at the importer’s expense.

With regard to consignments that are returned for the purpose of not displaying them in the local market, the regulations require the submission of a pledge prohibiting commercial display, along with an explanation of the actual purpose of re-importation.

The controls stressed that the shelf life of these products should not be less than the period stipulated in the controls for clearing imported products for commercial purposes.

Conditions for transporting and storing products

The updated draft stressed the importance of adhering to the conditions for transporting and storing re-imported products according to the type of each product.

This procedure comes in accordance with the Food and Drug Authority’s system issued by Royal Decree No. M/6, which grants the Authority the executive powers to authorize the clearance of food and drug products, medical devices, and cosmetic products.
