Jeddah Governorate Municipality About two tons of sweets and foodstuffs unfit for human consumption, as part of its ongoing monitoring efforts to protect public health, during a joint field campaign carried out within the university municipality, which resulted in the closure of an illegal factory for the production of sweets, which was exploited by illegal workers inside a residential apartment to manufacture products distributed to restaurants.

The General Director of Monitoring and Addressing Negative Phenomena, Yasser Bakhsh, explained that the field teams began The site, where it was found that there was a large, unlicensed factory for the production of various types of sweets, inside a site that lacked all municipal and health requirements.

A direct danger to public health

He pointed out that the field inspection revealed a low level of general hygiene, and the spread of insects inside the preparation and storage areas, in addition to the preparation and processing of food in an unhealthy environment adjacent to the bathrooms, in the production area, which constitutes a direct danger to public health.

He added The campaign resulted in the arrest of illegal workers who were self-employed inside the site without health certificates, as the workers were seized by the competent authority, and the regulatory procedures were completed against them, indicating that the Sub-University Municipality destroyed all the seized sweets and foodstuffs, which weighed about 2 tons, after verifying that they were not fit for human consumption, in addition to confiscating the equipment, machines, and tools used in manufacturing operations.

Strengthening control

The campaign was implemented with support. The Sub-University Municipality, with the participation of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, Field Control, and Civil Defense, as the entire site was closed and a closure notice was placed in preparation for completing the regular procedures against violators.

These efforts come within the ongoing work of the Jeddah Governorate Municipality in monitoring and addressing violating activities, and strengthening control over irregular sites, in a way that preserves public health and consumer safety.
