Sharjah Private Schools achieve qualitative achievements in TIMSS tests

Private schools in the Emirate of Sharjah achieved outstanding results in the International Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) test in its 2023 session, achieving positive ranks that reflect their superiority at the national and regional levels. These results came as part of an international report presented by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). Within the results announcement forum in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Arab Education Bureau for the Gulf States, which was held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai with the participation of experts and representatives of international educational bodies.

The TIMSS study is considered one of the prestigious international initiatives that evaluates students’ performance in mathematics and science, in which many countries participate, with the aim of comparing the level of education globally, and exploring ways to develop its outcomes.

The sample of the study in Sharjah private schools included 5,567 male and female students from the fourth grade, representing 116 schools, and 4,630 male and female students from the eighth grade, representing 108 schools from all curricula in the Emirate of Sharjah that adopt Arabic or English as the language of instruction.

The results showed remarkable progress for Sharjah schools, as they were ranked 29th globally in mathematics and 28th globally in science for the fourth grade out of 72 educational systems, and recorded an honorable achievement in the eighth grade, where they achieved 10th place globally in mathematics and 13th globally in science.

The results also showed that 51 private schools in the Emirate of Sharjah obtained a rate higher than the international average for the fourth grade in mathematics, and 38 schools were higher than the international average in science. As for eighth grade results, 35 schools achieved above the international average in mathematics and science for the TIMSS 2023 study.

The study confirmed that four Sharjah private schools received an “Advanced International Standard” rating in science and mathematics for the fourth grade, 20 Sharjah private schools received a “High International Standard” rating in mathematics for the fourth grade, and 64 Sharjah private schools received a rating. The “International Average Standard” in fourth grade science and 54 schools in eighth grade mathematics.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Dr. Muhaddith Yahya Al Hashemi, expressed her pride in what Sharjah Private Schools have achieved and congratulated the schools participating in these international tests, praising the sincere efforts made by the administrative and teaching bodies in private schools, in addition to the efforts of the students and their families, with the support and follow-up of the Authority. Sharjah Private Education, which contributed to achieving this achievement.
