“Reef” initiative

It is noteworthy that “Reef” is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in 2019 to raise the standard of living of small farmers and rural families, increase efficiency and productivity, and improve lifestyle and food security.
In its first phase, until 2025 AD, the program aims to achieve food security in the Kingdom, by providing 43% of the food energy needs of the population of the targeted areas, and about 19% of the Kingdom’s total needs.
“Reef” seeks to develop various agricultural sectors, such as: Arabica coffee, bees and honey, roses, rain-fed crops such as sorghum, sesame and millet, fish, livestock, and fruits.
It also supports productive families and develops small holdings and traditional agricultural activities. The program aims to empower women and increase their participation in the labor market, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
It is noteworthy that “Reef” focuses on rural areas and works to strengthen the capabilities of small agricultural producers, cooperative societies, and rural institutions, to enable them to obtain resources, services, and access to markets.
