Dubai International Chamber organizes 308 business meetings in Kampala

Dubai International Chamber, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, held 308 bilateral business meetings between companies from Dubai and their counterparts in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, during the first leg of the trade mission led by the chamber to both Uganda and Tanzania within the framework of the “New Horizons for Expansion” initiative. A statement issued today stated that the mission’s activities included the Chamber organizing a business forum in Kampala entitled “Doing Business with Uganda,” with the support of the UAE Embassy in Kampala, the Ugandan Embassy in the Emirates, the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Uganda Investment Authority, and the Private Sector Association. On the sidelines of the forum, the Prime Minister of Uganda, Robina Nabanga, met with the Dubai International Chamber delegation in a private meeting, where she stressed the importance of the mission led by the Chamber in strengthening economic ties and business partnerships, praising the Chamber’s efforts in consolidating cooperation, trade exchange and investments between the two sides.
She also confirmed that the forum, which was organized in Uganda, will achieve its goals in facilitating dialogue between the two business communities and supporting investments to serve common interests.
During the forum’s activities, Dubai Chambers concluded a memorandum of understanding with the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Dubai companies and their Ugandan counterparts, in addition to organizing trade missions, conferences and business events with the aim of sharing experiences and knowledge, which contributes to achieving mutual benefits and advancing the wheel of growth and innovation. The memorandums of understanding also stipulated the exchange of information, consultations, and opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the areas of business and investment policies.
Director General of Dubai Chambers, Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, said: “We are committed to strengthening Dubai’s trade and investment partnerships with various countries of the world, and we are keen to support companies operating in the emirate to expand and grow globally in various sectors to explore opportunities in promising markets, including Uganda, which contributes to enhancing “The growth of Dubai’s foreign trade and the consolidation of its position as an international business centre.”
During his participation in the Business Forum, Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, gave an extensive introductory presentation about the economic landscape in Dubai, and reviewed the competitive advantages that the emirate offers to companies and investors.
The value of non-oil trade between Dubai and Uganda during the past year amounted to 4.4 billion dirhams, according to data from the Dubai Customs Department, while the number of active Ugandan companies registered as members of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce until the end of September 2024 reached 148 companies.
Representatives of 29 companies from the private sector in Dubai participated in the trade mission’s activities, specializing in a variety of sectors, including the construction and building materials sector, engineering industries, food and beverages, warehousing and retail services, oil and gas, in addition to electrical appliances, and health care.
