California: A forest fire causes the evacuation of homes and the closure of schools

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for thousands of residents in Southern California on Tuesday, due to a wildfire.
Firefighters are battling a wind-driven forest fire in Malibu that broke out near oceanfront mansions and Pepperdine University.
The students watched the flames spread down the hills, turning the sky dark red.
Anthony C. said: Maron, chief of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said a small number of homes burned, but the exact number could not be immediately known.

Threatening 8,100 homes and buildings

Wildfires have threatened more than 8,100 homes and structures in California, including more than 2,000 homes whose residents were ordered to evacuate.
Another 6,000 people have been warned to prepare to evacuate at any moment upon receiving notice.
Winds blow from the city of Santa Ana at speeds of up to 64 km, making the fire spread in multiple directions.

Last November, a powerful storm continued to cause heavy snow and record rain on Friday as it moved across Northern California.
Which led to the closure of roads and the evacuation of residents in some areas, after two people were killed and hundreds of thousands lost power in the Pacific Northwest.

Meteorologists warned of the continued risk of flash floods and rockslides, and dozens of flights were canceled at San Francisco Airport.

Forcing schools to close

A wind-fueled wildfire in Malibu, California, tripled in size over the course of an hour early Tuesday morning.
This led to evacuation orders being issued, schools being forced to close and a portion of the Pacific Coast Highway closed.
The Franklin Fire, which was out of control in Los Angeles County, burned nearly 1,822 acres overnight.
All Malibu schools were closed until further notice, while Pepperdine University canceled classes and issued a stay-at-home order.

The richest cities in California

Malibu is one of the wealthiest cities in the state, with miles of pristine beaches, and homes selling for a median price of more than $4 million.
The evacuation orders cover an area not far from the site of the Getty Fire, a fire that occurred in 2019.
It burned 745 acres, forcing local celebrities to evacuate.
The Pacific Coast Highway is the main link to Malibu.
With part of this road currently closed due to fire, the exclusive community is mostly isolated from the rest of the Los Angeles area.
