Department of Energy Youth Program… Empowerment for future leaders

Abu Dhabi, December 12, 2024 – The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi hosted the Youth Program within the activities of the World Desalination Conference 2024, in a step aimed at empowering the next generation of Emirati leaders in the water and energy sector.
The Youth Program activities brought together an elite group of experts and specialists with young people from the United Arab Emirates and around the world, through interactive discussion sessions, seminars to exchange visions and ideas, and workshops on vital topics such as addressing global water scarcity, promoting sustainable practices, technological innovation, and energy integration. In addition to integrated water management and international cooperation.
His Excellency Engineer Awaida Murshid Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, stressed the importance of involving youth in these dialogues, pointing out that today’s youth are the leaders of the future and makers of innovative solutions that will contribute to protecting water resources for future generations.
His Excellency added that the youth program launched at this conference reflects the department’s continued commitment to empowering young minds and stimulating their active participation in this global event, which contributes to linking knowledge with practical solutions on the ground.
Among the most prominent topics covered by the program was the story of water management in Abu Dhabi, presented by His Excellency Engineer Awaida Murshid Al Marar, in addition to a youth ideas workshop entitled The relationship between water technology and solar energy, and a “Water and Renewable Energy” workshop, presented by Malak Halabi from Masdar Company, during which she reviewed the axis of Sustainable innovation in water production, while Aisha Abdul Rahman Al-Ali, from the Innovation Department at the Department of Energy, presented the topic of the role of leadership in innovating energy solutions. The Youth Program is an essential part of the conference agenda, which focused on the interconnection between water, energy and food security, and aims to prepare a generation of inspired young leaders, armed with the knowledge and ability to adopt policies and technologies that support the sustainable use of water in the UAE and around the world.
Shannon McCarthy, Secretary General of the International Desalination Association, said that in light of the increasing global water scarcity crisis, it has become necessary to encourage future leaders to research and innovate sustainable solutions, as the youth program at this conference contributes to promoting new perspectives and enabling these leaders to lead… Sustainable change in their communities.
For his part, Hamad Naji Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Youth Program Council at the Department of Energy, said that this program provides a valuable opportunity for young people to gain valuable global experiences.
The World Desalination Congress 2024 is an ideal opportunity to hear the voices of young people who are future leaders and pioneers of innovation in this field.
The World Desalination Conference program targets young leaders of professionals under the age of 35.
