With American missiles… Trump “strongly” opposes Ukraine’s targeting of Russian depth
But Trump stressed at the same time that he would not abandon Ukraine and his intention to use American support for Kiev as a pressure factor in order to reach an agreement to end the war.
The Russian-Ukrainian war
Washington supplied Ukraine with long-range Atakum missiles with a range of 300 kilometers, capable of hitting targets inside Russia, which angered Moscow, which responded by launching the modern, hypersonic “Oreshnik” missile at the Dnipro in eastern Ukraine.
Trump said in an interview with Time magazine, which chose him as “Person of the Year” on Thursday: “I strongly disagree with launching missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why would we do that?” Considering that this only leads to “escalating this war and making it worse.”
Support Ukraine
The interview was conducted on November 25, before Thanksgiving and before Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

When pressed about his opinion on the issue of support for Ukraine, Trump replied that he would use Washington’s support as a means of pressure to end the war. “I want to reach an agreement, and the only way to reach an agreement is to not stop” the support, he said.
Criticism of Kyiv
Russian news agencies were interested in Trump’s comments, noting the US President-elect’s clear criticism of Kiev’s approach.
In response to a question about Trump’s statements, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council announced Thursday that he did not want to “get into a debate” with the president-elect’s camp over this issue.
John Kirby said during a press conference: “President Biden’s policy has been to do everything in our power… so that Ukraine can defend itself, so that President Zelensky will find himself in the best possible conditions when we reach negotiations.”
