Argentina defeats England and qualifies to face Spain in the 2026 World Cup final

Argentina, the defending champion, turned the tables on England and beat them 2-1 with two late goals, to reach the final of the 2026 World Cup.
England was on its way to reaching the second final in its history after 1966, when it won its only title, after taking the lead with Anthony Gordon’s goal (55), but Argentina did it as usual in its last three matches by turning the tables with two goals from Enzo Fernandez in the 85th minute and substitute Lautaro Martinez (90 + 1) after two decisive passes from the leader and all-time World Cup top scorer Lionel Messi.
Argentina, which reached the second final in a row and the seventh in its history in its quest for the fourth title after 1978, 1986 and 2022, will meet in the final match next Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on the outskirts of New York, with Spain, which beat France 2-0 on Tuesday in Dallas.
