“Sunshine Protection Law”… Trump intends to cancel daylight saving time

US President-elect Donald Trump expressed his desire to cancel the switch to daylight saving time.
In a post on his social media site Truth Social on Friday, Trump said his party will try to end the practice when he returns to office.

Trump wrote: “The Republican Party will do everything in their power to abolish Daylight Saving Time. Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient and extremely expensive for our nation.”

Moving the time forward by one hour in the spring and moving it back by one hour in the fall is said to be intended to maximize daylight during the summer months, but has long been under scrutiny. Daylight saving time was first adopted as a wartime measure in 1942.

Lawmakers have proposed getting rid of the time change altogether. The most notable recent effort, a now-stalled bipartisan bill titled the Sunshine Protection Act, proposed making daylight saving time permanent.

The bill was sponsored by Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who was chosen by Trump to serve as Secretary of State.
